My paintings are essentially about people. Even in the still-life paintings, though often devoid of people, there is an implicit human presence; somebody has arranged the flowers, left the scissors or knife – someone has engaged with the items shown. It is an insight into this person’s world.
Other paintings are focussed on human interaction. The relationship between people may be questioned. As in real life, we may think we know, but in truth can only surmise.

Pickard trained at Leeds College of Art in the early 1960’s and later at the University
College of Ripon and York St John, which was then affiliated with Leeds University,
She subsequently became Senior lecturer in painting and drawing there.
She has taught for many years at all levels and exhibits regularly locally and further afield. She now works full time at her studio in a variety of media including oil, watercolour, pastel and mixed media.
Her work is in collections in Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and the U.S.A.
